Join the chat

We have game chats for pretty much every single game and we’re slowly getting more and more people. Join any time to see if people are on… If the Pens aren’t playing, you might have to wait a while for people to respond, since it’s just a few of us in the chat room most of the time. We love not just the Pens but hockey and sports in general.

You can join right from the home page of the site, or you can use the pop-up chat which will open a new window which you can then resize and drag around your screen.

Since we’re new, the chat room’s not too busy and a lot of people show up and just leave, especially during games, which obviously sucks. Sometimes they don’t even say a word, which sucks even more. So even if you’re not gonna say much, it’s great if you can stay for the whole game and chime in from time to time. Also, since we need some help getting the word out, tell your friends about the site, follow us on twitter and MySpace, and retweet us whenever the site is linked to on our twitter.

Also you should know that there’s a bot in the chat room where you can check for scores, stats, standings, and a lot more. These are some of the triggers that you can use, but you should know that the bot is not ours (it’s borrowed from another channel), so please don’t abuse it because it only works on 1 channel at a time:

• .nhl * – Check today’s NHL scores and schedule.
• .nhl – Check current scores only.
• .nhl pit – Check a specific team’s score.
• .nhl * 04/26 – Check scores or schedule for a specific date.
• .stats [name] – Check for a player’s stats using their last name or their full name. Ex. .stats crosby for Sidney Crosby’s stats.
• .stats [name] playoffs - Same as above, but for playoff stats.
• .stats [name] [year] – Check for a player’s stats from a specific season. Ex. .stats crosby 2007 brings up Crosby’s stats from the 2007-08 season.
• .leaders pts – NHL scoring leaders. Also .leaders goals and .leaders assists.
• .playoffs – Check the status of all current Stanley Cup playoff series.
• .standings east / west – Check the standings for the Eastern or Western Conference.
• .scout [name] – Any player’s scouting report, including some prospects.
• .review – Get a report on the latest goals that were reviewed by the NHL’s war room in Toronto.
• .nfl / .nfl * / .nfl pit – NFL scores. .mlb / .mlb * / .mlb pit – Baseball scores. .nba / .nba * – NBA scores. .ncb pitt / .ncf pitt – Pitt Panthers basketball and football scores.

A mobile version of the chatroom is coming soon to m.penschat.com. It will work on the iPhone and hopefully on Blackberries and other phones as well. Hang tight for that. However, if you’re somewhat savvy and you have an iPhone or Blackberry, there are a number of IRC apps available for both that let you connect to our chat room. Google is your friend. Once you have them set up, connect to EFNet and then join #pens. Our preferred EFNet server is irc.umich.edu but you can connect to a random server using irc.efnet.org. If that doesn’t work, try irc.shoutcast.com and irc.colosolutions.net.

And finally, if you’d like to join using an IRC client such as mIRC, you’re more than welcome to do so.
